Steve’s offerings

*Level grading minimums
Skiers:
Level 5 Parallel Turns: 20-30 Days Skiing
You can make parallel turns using your poles on blue runs and can ski comfortably on groomed black runs.
Level 6 Carved Turns: 30+ Days Skiing
You can make strong parallel turns and can ski black terrain in all snow conditions.
Level 7 Expert Skiers
You can confidently ski all terrain in any snow conditions.
Boarders:
Level 4 Intermediate: 20-30 Days Boarding
You can comfortably ride blue and easy black runs and are happy to try more difficult terrain and be introduced to more advanced riding.
Level 5 Advanced: 30+ Days Boarding
You are riding the whole mountain.

1. All mountain day:
Ride the groomers, a little off-piste and learn the best runs for your ability and skill.
Requirements & Equipment: Your standard skis/board equipment is fine. However for a better experience I suggest an all mountain ski, demo rental or better. (*Min level as blow)

2. Introductory to advanced powder days:
Includes resort riding inbounds and lift access side/back country.
Requirements & Equipment: All mountain to fat ski, 90mm or wider. Snowboarders, bigger is better, not a park/jib board. Avi pack recommended. (*Min level as blow)

3. Backcountry touring:
From the resort to the backcountry, includes hiking into unlifted areas. Requirements & Equipment: Require avi pack (beacon, shovel, probe) and fat (100mm+) alpine touring skis&skins. Boarders need snowshoes and powder boarder or a split board set up.
Min. level 6 skier and level 5 Boarder.
Restrictions: 12 years and over, powder skiing/boarding ability, and at a reasonable level of fitness. It’s a big day out including hiking and advanced riding.

Pricing per day

  • 1 person private : $450
  • 2 people : $230 pp
  • 3-4 people : $160 pp
  • 5-6 people : $130 pp
  • Group bookings (7 to 12) available on request with tail guide

10% discount applies to concurrently booked days. Not included in pricing: lift ticket, lunch and equipment.

Additional information

Schedule:

  • The day before: Sign-in, gear check & pre-tour briefing by 18:00
  • On the day: 7:30 confirm tour. Meet/depart 8-8.30am
  • Morning session till lunch
  • Arvo session to 3.00pm, but is flexible in time (depends on weather/snow conditions and gas left in the tank).

Location:

Sign in, start and finish at Phoenix Hotel, unless otherwise agreed.
Ski areas include HappoOne, Cortina, Norikura, Tsugaike, Hakuba 47 and more.

Equipment required for Backcountry tours:

  • Avalanche equipment - beacon, shovel, probe (mandatory)
  • Backpack (ski/snowboard specific) (mandatory)
  • AlpineTouring skis & skins, Splitboard/snowshoes for hiking (mandatory)
  • Lunch, drinks and at least 1L water (mandatory)
  • Energy bars/chocolate/nuts etc (mandatory)
  • Plenty of layers for all conditions (mandatory)
  • Helmet (recommended)
  • Sunglasses and or second pair of goggles and gloves for hiking (highly recommended)
